Woke up to a few inches of snow? It's time to clean the rugs!!! In my experience it worked equally well for both oriental rugs and synthetic ones.
On the cold winter day, when there's plenty of fresh "dry" snow, take your rug outside. Lay it flat and put some snow on top of it. Using a broom, brush the rug in different directions, brushing the dirty snow off and adding some fresh snow as needed.
If the rug is small, shake it to get the snow and dirt off. If the rug is too big, gently beat it with a paddle, flip it over and repeat.
It's not recommended to hang the rug on the clothes line as it stretches the rug.
You can also leave the rug outside overnight prior to snow-cleaning. This helps to kill the mites and bugs that might be "snug in your rug".
Enjoy a clean, fresh rug.
